This visual gag/homage is driven further home later in the episode when Joker uses his newfound power to make her mute, and everything she says appears as a speech plate, in the style of the old silent films - a fact she exploits by utilising the plates as weapons against the Joker's other goons who plot to do away with their boss whilst he is in Batman's mind. It's not an origin story - there are few of those in BATB its style is more to drop the viewer straight in and provide clues along the way to inform about the characters - but Harley's romantic relationship with Joker is clearly established and communicated in the way they speak to each other and the easy way she leans against him and he permits it when she first enters.Īll of the Joker's goons here are deliciously depicted in monochromatic palette, evoking silent film & B&W comedians - this style is true of Harley, who appears modelled on the sort of love interest that would appear in Charlie Chaplin's & other silent film comics' work. Given that BATB is a heavily 'meta' series, drawing on & paying homage to many incarnations of Batman through the ages, it was really interesting to see how they brought our Harls to life for the show. This take on HQ was interesting, cute & funny. ![]() It's a loose adapatation of the Superman arc from the early noughties and introduces a brand new version of Harley Quinn.Ī very dialup-unfriendly series of screengrabs and MASSIVE GREAT HONKING SPOILERS appears below the cut! Welp, down here in Australia this past weekend we were the lucky first to have the episode Emperor Joker from the Brave and the Bold animated series screen down here.
